Inspire: Know You Before There's No You
Okay, So I'm single. It's not a secret, it's been about a year. Of course it was a struggle for me in the beginning, but the days have gotten much brighter and there are so many things that I've learned being in this phase of my life. One of the biggest things that I learned about myself is how dependent I became on someone else to make me happy. This was evident in the degree of turmoil I experienced after the break-up. And it's interesting because I would have never admitted or realized that while in the relationship. While I understand there is a level of heartache that I would experience after this happened, I felt so lost, so lost it was sort of irrational. And everything I'd accomplished up to that point felt like it was for nothing, because I no longer had anyone to share it with. This was a serious problem. Why did I feel like this? The desire for companionship is natural, but needing damn near complete validation? That's not okay.
For the majority of my high school, college, and post college years I was in relationships. There's was maybe a little over a year of time where I was actually single, but that a lot of time to always be "with someone". Being single as an adult has allowed a lot more time for growth. I know a hell of a lot more about what I want, what I expect, and most of all more about myself. I'm actually a pretty dope individual with or without a man LOL, seriously I am!
I listened to an interview that Keke Palmer gave on The Breakfast Club, she addressed being single. I couldn't have summed it up better myself. Basically she states being single is fun because you find yourself. And you develop a self love that so great that you don't depend on another individual for happiness. And once you do find yourself in another relationship you able to give love without expecting the other person to fill certain voids. Do I think she saying you shouldn't expect love from anyone else your in a relationship with? No, but what she is saying is that someone else's love for you shouldn't validate your happiness. Listen to the interview here,
To sum this up, and get to the title of this post, get to know yourself. Whether your single or not it's important to know who you are, as a single human being. Learning who you are, accepting yourself, and most of all loving yourself are essential and creating the healthiest relationships with others. You won't just have happiness, but you'll have something even greater: Joy. So get to know yourself before you lose yourself in someone else.

Motivation Monday: Be Unique!
Happy Monday everyone! This Monday's motivation came from the monthly newsletter sent out by my job. At the end of every issue is an inspirational quote and I really liked this one. I mean it's hard to argue with Coco Chanel!
Ms. Chanel says be different, to me this means be you. Last time I checked everyone was born as their own unique being. I also really like the quote "Be you, everyone else is taken". You won't stand out in the world mimicking everyone else. Being inspired is great, but at the end of the day make sure you are still true to yourself.

Modern Girl Struggles: Milestone Birthdays
It starts around your 25th birthday, you look around and you start to question everything you've done up to this point and many of us realize we haven't accomplished what we thought we would by this age. Then you start to freak out! You soon return to normal until the next milestone, then it gets worse. I've experienced this myself, even dreaded it, but I learned how to celebrate these miles stones again and appreciate them with these three gems of advice.
1. THERE IS ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE
I know this may seem a little grim, but it's definitely real. I was speaking with one of my cousins about my birthday and how I was "adjusting", and he simply said, "you know there's another alternative to getting older. That definitely changed my perspective on things. So many people don't get to live in the moment that your living right now, so if your having trouble with a birthday, just start there. And with all the breathe in your lungs, blow out those candles with gusto!
2. USE IT AS MOTIVATION!!
I know you guys are like, why are you showing me a cup?? Well this picture in general represents a lot. When I turned 25, I had what I call a "quarter life crisis". I was just not where I thought I would be in life AT ALL!! So after a few minor break downs and some soul searching, I set out to change it. After all, I was still breathing so it wasn't too late. And guess what? I accomplished those goals!! So instead of having a pity party, just acknowledge that you want to be better and do more, and then GO DO IT!!!
3. DON'T FORGET TO PARTY!!
After all it is your birthday! Go celebrate and live it up! And yes, I'm 30 :-) More to come about what I did after in a later post! XOXO

Motivation Monday: Just Do It
Hello everyone! I'm back! Again! LOL! I've decided to get back into the swing of things. I was actually supposed to post this this morning as Monday Motivation, but I didn't get up in time :-/ However, my message can apply to any day of the week.
I kept telling myself I'll get back into blogging. First it was, "When you're not working a full-time job, going to school for you Masters' and doing an doing internship", then it was "When you're not taking two classes a quarter at school", then it was "When you finish this final paper", then I was out of excuses. After all that I STILL didn't get back into it right away, then it hit me like a ton a bricks, "What are you waiting for? Really What? JUST DO IT!"
Just Do It, it hardly a message I originated, Nike ever so eloquently put it into words and out into the world. But it rings so true. Whatever you're waiting to do, don't wait! Just Do It! Got some obstacles in your way? Chop 'em down! But you have to actually start! My obstacles were honestly myself, I didn't think I had time, I didn't think I had enough content, I ultimately think I was enough. But, and I say this in the most polite way possible, SCREW THAT! I'll never know unless I try so, here we go again :-) House of Cramel, take 10? LOL

Things I Learned on the South Beach Diet
So I've been on a journey to become a better me lately. A lot has changed in the last couple months. In this particular blog I want to focus on my health. I've been a quest to lose weight. My doctor actually told about the South Beach Diet about a year ago. But when she told me what it entailed I say "Oh no!". Then a little earlier in this year the scale went in a scale that I'd never imagine. So desperate times caused for desperate measures. Here are seven things I learned while doing this diet (Ten sounded good when I started to write this post, but I ended up with seven lol!)
1. It Works.
South Beach claims to aid you in the loss of up to 10 pounds
in the first two weeks of the diet. I can vouch for this. The most I’ve lost is
8 pounds in the first two weeks.
2. It’s Hard.
I’ll be the first and the last person to tell you that this
diet is not easy. No you aren’t hungry all the time, but you are restricted to
a particular group of foods. In order for the diet to be effective you must
stick to it! I love cupcakes…and cupcakes just aren’t a part of the diet. The
first two weeks both the most rewarding and the most difficult.
3. You get creative.
With the foods you are restricted to you definitely start
thinking of ways to shake things up a bit, or mimick some of the meals you are
use to eating. For example, I really like pasta, but you can’t have that. So I
tried spaghetti squash, and it is divine!
4. Pinterest is your friend!
Pinterest became my best friend. There are other people that
have done all the work for you and are willing to share their recipes, food
lists, and tips for success. Tap into it.
5. Try not to cheat!
It you cheat on this diet it is very hard to go back.
Believe me I know, this minute I convinced myself it was okay to cheat after my
first time on the diet, I never quite got back on track. Unless your incredibly
disciplined I don’t recommend you “give yourself a treat”. Beside you’ll
welcome fresh fruit with open arms once you can have it again after the first
two week.
6. You learn a lot about your body.
I really learned a lot about my body and really started to
question it. When I thought I was hungry I questioned it. Was I really hungry
or did I just want to eat. You’ll learn that there is definitely a difference.
7. Your weight loss progress depends a lot on your diet.
This could just be my opinion, but honestly if your are not
at least trying to eat correctly your weight loss chances are slim. You cannot “out
work” a bad diet. You’ll never become achieve your personal best body, it you
don’t have a healthy diet. My sister
always says “These girls are all watching what they put in their hair, they
need to be watching what they’re putting in their bodies”, she’s got a real
point.
I hope this helps anyone that's on a weight loss journey!
